Information:
The Wilding is located within the former walled garden and bird of prey centre at Lowther, an area with a long history of managed landscape and public interest. The site sits within the wider Lowther Estate, which is undertaking an extensive rewilding programme to enhance biodiversity and restore natural habitats. Adjacent to the site is Lowther Castle, under the same landlord, which has been redeveloped as a major visitor attraction with support from a range of funding bodies. The Wilding forms part of the Estate’s long term masterplan to broaden its tourism offer and support sustainable rural development.
There is currently very limited rentable visitor accommodation within the Estate itself, meaning The Wilding would provide an important addition to local tourist infrastructure and allow visitors to stay within walking and cycling distance of key attractions. The site benefits from immediate access to established cycle paths and walking routes across the Estate through to Ullswater in the west, as well as proximity to the River Lowther and surrounding countryside, offering opportunities for outdoor recreation and nature based tourism.
